Task-based language assessment

Abstract

As task-based language teaching has recently come to the center of attention, the debate about how to assess tasks, and especially integrated tasks, became a vital part of the teaching approach. The contribution aims to present selected examples of task assessment currently used in a series of courses for Special Educators at the Faculty of Education in order to discuss the struggles of creating rubrics for portfolio tasks and open a more general discussion about such challenges.

Abstract

V podzimním semestru 2021 byly v seminárních skupinách oddělení CJV na ESF napříč jazyky poprvé plošně zavedeny povinné úkoly s cílem motivovat studenty k intenzivnějšímu zapojení se do rozhodování o tematickém zaměření hodin a způsobu prezentace daného obsahu. Příspěvek představí typy úkolů zadávané v jednotlivých jazycích, způsob zpracování a hodnocení, poměr získaných bodů k celkovému závěrečnému hodnocení a také reakce studentů na tyto úkoly.

Úvod do aplikované korpusové lingvistiky: možnosti využití korpusů ve výuce a studiu cizího jazyka

Abstract

Hlavním cílem workshopu je představit základní možnosti využití jazykových korpusů ve výuce a studiu cizích jazyků. Na konkrétních příkladech vybraných jazyků (latina, stará řečtina, akademická angličtina, čeština jako cizí jazyk) bude demonstrována základní charakteristika dvou stěžejních metodologických přístupů korpusové lingvistiky v jazykové výuce i) corpus-based a ii) corpus-driven approach. Účastníci workshopu budou postupně vedeni k zamyšlení nad tím, jakým způsobem lze proces osvojování slovní zásoby a s ní spjatých gramatických pravidel s pomocí korpusů zefektivnit. Zájemcům se pokusí otevřít dveře do světa možností, které korpusová lingvistika v jazykové výuce nabízí, a přilákat jejich pozornost k tomu podstatnému: studium skutečného jazyka bez zkreslujících kontur. Pro účast ve workshopu je vhodné mít s sebou vlastní elektronické zařízení připojitelné k internetu.

Introducing healthcare students to reflective practice

Abstract

In the UK reflection plays a pivotal role in both healthcare education and the revalidation process and supports healthcare professionals to continually improve the way they work and the quality of care they give to people. During the Autumn 2021 semester second-year healthcare students were introduced to the principles of reflective practice and were provided with the scaffolding to write their own summative reflection on an academic or placement experience or event using the What? So what? Now what? reflective stages. During this session I will present a summary of the lesson plan that fostered this development and share anonymised examples of the reflective writing that the students produced.

Casting a Podcasting Spell: Student-created podcasts in Legal English classes – different approaches

Abstract

In this talk, we are going to show how student-created podcasts can be successfully employed when working virtually with students in international contexts, i.e., from our university and those from abroad. Two teams of teachers will share their experience gained in slightly different settings (cooperation with universities in Poland and Hungary), with the aim of sharing what works well, what to be careful about, and other practical tricks and tips. Samples of student work will be shown and quotes from student feedback will be presented to show what the students felt about waving their imaginary magic wands and creating incredible podcasts out of nothing.

Využití nástrojů korpusové lingvistiky při posuzování pedagogických intervencí

Abstract

Cílem prezentace je představit vybrané nástroje korpusové lingvistiky, které slouží k automatické analýze přirozeného jazyka, konkrétně angličtiny. V prezentaci budou představeny možnosti využití těchto nástrojů pro analýzu a výzkum kvality písemné či ústní produkce studentů. Konkrétně se bude jednat o možnost jejich využití při posuzování vlivu pedagogických intervencí na kvalitu produkce z hlediska rozvoje slovní zásoby a syntaxe jako aspektů složitosti jazykového systému. Prezentované nástroje a způsoby jejich využití pak mohou sloužit jako inspirace pro vlastní výzkum či analýzu produkce studentů.

This workshop is organized by kyndryl (former IBM) and the speaker has been working there since 2016 on several positions, currently he is working as First Line Manager for SDDC Networking Team. Therefore he has extensive experience with people and soft skills, and stress management, together with time management are his areas of interest.
