Chinese for Beginners I

This course is a continuation of the previous course Chinese for Absolute Beginners I & II. Prior knowledge of the language is required (Lesson 1-9 in Let's Learn Mandarin, Level 1). The course is taught in English.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
After completing the course, students will be able to:

  1. Express opinions and feelings about people, activities, and objects, including describing degree and making comparisons.
  2. Describe and discuss weather conditions using appropriate vocabulary and basic sentence patterns.
  3. Conduct basic interactions in restaurants and shops, including ordering food and making purchases.
  4. Ask for and give reasons, and use conditional sentences to express possibilities or hypothetical situations.

Week 2: Lesson 10 Feelings — Vocabulary
Week 3: Lesson 10 Feelings — Grammar: Verb + de () and duōshǎo (多少) to describe degree or extent
Week 4: Lesson 11 Weather — Vocabulary
Week 5: Lesson 11 Weather — Grammar: Comparative sentences
Week 6: Lesson 12 Shopping — Vocabulary
Week 7: Lesson 12 Shopping — Grammar: Relative time expressions and giving reasons
Week 8: Lesson 13 Food and Drinks — Vocabulary
Week 9: Lesson 13 Food and Drinks — Grammar: Making choices
Week 10: Lesson 14 Ordering Food — Vocabulary
Week 11: Lesson 14 Ordering Food — Grammar: Conditional sentences
Week 12: Cultural activity experience

This course entitles the graduate to obtain microcredentials.

What are microcredentials?

A Microcredential (MC) is an official certificate obtained after finishing a specialized course, which you complete with a demonstrable verification of your competencies. It is issued in electronic form, verifiable, transferable and internationally recognized. It serves as proof of your further (lifelong) education and can support your study or professional career.

If you apply for a microcredential in a CJV language course, the teacher will test the acquired knowledge with you at the end.
