Multilingualism as a Superpower: Disorders and Difficulties

  • 13 November 2025
    4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Brno Expat Centre, Community Room, Orlí 3, 2. floor

The second workshop in the “Multilingualism as a Superpower” series explores challenges related to multiple language acquisition. We’ll address questions such as: Can learning multiple languages be harmful? Should children first master their mother tongue before introducing additional languages?

The session will examine multilingualism through the lens of psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics, shedding light on how multiple languages function in the human mind. We’ll also confront common stereotypes such as the “right” time to learn additional languages, their potential benefits or drawbacks and delve into issues like speech disorders and specific learning disabilities in multilingual individuals.

The workshop will feature shared experiences from researchers, professionals, and most importantly parents. Its goal is to highlight effective practices: what works, what matters, and how we can foster multilingualism in our society. Languages used in the workshop will be Czech and English.
