Enter the blogosphere! A workshop for doctoral students on writing research-based blog posts

  • 8. listopadu 2023
    14:00 – 17:00
  • PřF MU, classroom J2

Blogs constitute a potentially powerful educational bridge between your doctoral research and the wider public. However, blog writing is not simply a matter of writing about your research in less academic and more simple terms; your specialised, research-derived knowledge needs to be recontextualised so that your blog audience can "interpret and integrate it into their existing knowledge and feel involved" (Luzon, 2013, p.249). Drawing on theories of genre and transfer, this workshop aims to be your gateway to the blogosphere, supporting you to write a blog post based on your PhD research.

To participate, you will need:

  1. Your laptop
  2. Ideally, an abstract that pertains to the research you wish to blog about. If you haven't written an abstract about your research yet, bring along the abstract of a research article that you could write about.

Workshop leader:
Dr Lisa McGrath is an associate professor in educational linguistics at the Sheffield Institute of Education, Sheffield Hallam University, UK. Her research spans genre theory and pedagogy, English for Academic Purposes, and English for Research and Publication Purposes. She has published widely on research-based writing in journals such as Applied Linguistics, Journal of Second Language Writing and Higher Education. Lisa edits the Sheffield Institute of Education blog.
