Oddělení na PrF představí osvědčené aktivity z výuky angličtiny, němčiny, francouzštiny, španělštiny a latiny, ve kterých aktivní roli přebírají studenti, když sami naplní základní strukturu poskytnutou učitelem vlastním obsahem. Tento přístup je kreativní, rozvíjí autonomii studentů a buduje atmosféru vzájemné důvěry. Motivuje studenty a intenzivně je zapojuje do výuky.

Selected tried-and-tested activities designed by teachers of English, German, French, Spanish and Latin for Lawyers will be presented. The common denominator is the active part the students take when they fill in a framework provided by the teacher by bringing their own content. This creative approach teaches students to be autonomous and helps building an atmosphere of mutual trust. It motivates students and makes them directly involved in their own learning.

There are never enough activities in teaching language for specific purposes that would make the lessons lively and varied. We would like to share several tips that are easy to prepare and apply in the academic context. We will present activities easily adaptable to students’ needs, covering areas of speaking, writing, discussions and presentations. You will also learn to use a simple tool allowing students to provide instant feedback to teachers.

Zajímavých tipů na zpestření výuky odborného jazyka není nikdy dost. Proto se s vámi rády podělíme o několik efektivních aktivit, nenáročných na přípravu a jednoduše aplikovatelných v akademickém prostředí. Představíme aktivity, které lze dobře adaptovat na potřeby studentů různých úrovní, pokrývající oblast mluvení, psaní, diskusí a prezentací. Dále ukážeme nástroj, který umožňuje studentům poskytnout učiteli okamžitou zpětnou vazbu.

Creative writing is an important academic skill to develop, as it allows language learners a more relaxed method of expression, in both passive and active exercises. Creativity activates a different part of the brain; it shifts the emphasis from producing “correct content,” towards a focus on “what are the various styles of content we produce, and what are the limits?”

Osvojení si tvůrčího psaní je důležitou akademickou dovedností, protože dovoluje studentům jazyků volnější způsob vyjadřování jak v pasivních, tak i aktivních činnostech. Kreativita aktivuje jinou část mozku, a proto přesouvá důraz z vytváření „správného obsahu“ k zaměření se na „jaké různé styly obsahu může člověk vytvořit a kde je limit?“

The workshop will explain the process of changing the structure of IT classes at FI MU, the reasons, the optimistic vision and the harsh reality, the outcomes, the excitement as well as the disappointments, and most importantly, the lessons learnt. And you will also have the opportunity to hear their voice in the matter, that is their feedback. And we hope, you give us your feedback, too! Of course we will use it to show off somewhere else.

Workshop má za cíl představit změny, které proběhly ve struktuře hodin angličtiny na FI MU. Přinese důvody, vize, ale i realitu a zklamání, ale především to, čemu jsme se od studentů naučili, a jak toto využít v dalších kurzech. Součástí workshopu bude i feedback studentů.

The workshop is intended for an audience interested in exploring possible connections between ESP and the study of metaphor. We will first introduce the basics of Conceptual Metaphor Theory, followed by a selection of representative (and interesting) examples from medical English (ca. 25 min). In the interactive part, participants will be encouraged to come up with examples from their own fields of specialization and to discuss whether and how those metaphors may reflect reasoning in a particular field (ca. 15 min). We hope to show how metaphor is not only a creative device but also a commonplace in ESP that deserves due attention.

Workshop je určen těm, jež rádi propojují výzkum s didaktickou praxí, konkrétně pro ty, kteří by rádi uplatnili teoretické znalosti o metafoře ve výuce ESP. V přehledové části workshopu budou představeny základy teorie konceptuální metafory, které budou dále osvětleny na výběru reprezentativních příkladů z lékařské angličtiny. V průběhu interaktivní části budou účastníci pracovat s vlastními příklady z dalších variet ESP, kdy zvláštní pozornost bude věnována vlivu metafory na argumentační aparát v daném oboru. Cílem semináře je představit metaforu nejenom coby kreativní jazykovou konstrukci, nýbrž jako standardní součást registru ESP.

Feedback provision is an integral and at the same time natural part of teaching languages. The workshop starts with presenting concept of the feedback within the theories of language acquisition, mainly Sociocultural theory, so that its participants then could confront the theory with practice of the feedback provision. The workshop will also offer its participants various forms and modes of feedback provision.

Poskytování zpětné vazby je nedílnou a zároveň přirozenou součástí výuky cizích jazyků. Workshop se nejprve pokusí teoreticky ukotvit koncept zpětné vazby v teoriích osvojování cizích jazyků, především sociokulturní teorie, aby účastníci mohli následně teoretická východiska reflektovat na konkrétních příkladech poskytování zpětné vazby k mluvenému a psanému projevu. Součástí workshopu budou také praktické ukázky různých forem a možností poskytování zpětné vazby.

Experiential learning, or having students learn through experience, sounds terrific. However, redesigning an existing course seems daunting. Could we use the existing materials? Where should we begin? This workshop aims to demonstrate a fully operational experiential learning classroom along with activity ideas and steps to transform a traditional language course into a learning experience for students.

Zkušenostní výuka, nebo také výuka založená na zkušenostech, zní fantasticky. Na druhou stranu přepracování stávajícího kurzu je nelehký úkol. Můžeme použít již vytvořené materiály? Kde nejlépe začít? Cílem tohoto semináře je představit třídu, která plně funguje na základě zkušenostní výuky, spolu s aktivitami a kroky, které vedou k proměně tradičního jazykového kurzu na výuku založenou na zkušenostech studentů.

This workshop aims to share strategies and activities that both presenters and participants find effective in breaking the barriers.

Řada vyučujících cizích jazyků zažila ve své třídě ticho, kdy se studenti nezapojují do aktivit rozvíjejících mluvení. Tato pasivita může mít různé důvody, např. plachost či introvertní povahu, jazykovou bariéru, strach z chyb nebo nedostatek zájmu o téma. Cílem workshopu je sdílet strategie a mini aktivity, které prezentující, ale i samotní účastníci považují za efektivní pro prolomení bariér.

The aim of this workshop is to explore the ways in which multidisciplinary students can apply David Kolb’s Learning Cycle (1984) and his ‘processing continuum’ (how a task is approached) and ‘perception continuum’ (the feelings that those tasks invoke) to develop reflective portfolios. A range of pedagogical approaches that could be utilised with students to enhance their experiential learning will be shared in this session, together with sample work. Participants will be encouraged to consider both assessed and non-assessed tasks which might enable students to become more autonomous learners through their educational experiences both inside and outside of the classroom. The transferability of reflective skills beyond academic settings will also be highlighted.

Increasingly central 21st century preoccupations are how and to what extent students can develop independently of a teacher, and reconceptualising the role of the teacher when students have universal information permanently available at their fingertips. This workshop simulates a typical classroom session, based on a work-in-progress book on our current efforts to introduce autonomous learning to students in science disciplines.

Stále častěji se setkáváme s otázkami, jakými způsoby a do jaké míry se mohou studenti rozvíjet bez pomoci učitele. S novým přístupem k informacím, které jsou nyní pro každého k dispozici, dochází i přehodnocování role učitele. Workshop představí výuku, která se opírá o základní principy rozpracovávané v připravované knize na téma našeho bádání v oblasti autonomního učení určeného pro přírodovědce.

This seminar provides an insight into the problematics of using corpus linguistic tools for teaching medical terminology. We will present the corpus of authentic clinical diagnoses in Sketch Engine, while the attendants will be given a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the background of collaboration between a linguist and a computational specialist. Specific linguistic problems will be demonstrated with the focus on the potential ambiguity of an intuitive language approach and the significance of reflecting authentic data.

Seminář účastníky zasvětí do problematiky využití korpusových nástrojů pro výuku lékařské terminologie. Ve Sketch Engine bude představena aktuální podoba korpusu klinických diagnóz a účastníci budou mít jedinečnou příležitost nahlédnout do pozadí spolupráce lingvisty a počítačového specialisty. Kromě specifických problémů, se kterými se musí vypořádat, bude demonstrováno, jakým způsobem může být intuitivní přístup k jazyku zavádějící v porovnání s autentickými daty.

I usually focus on language acquisition during the LC Week. This year, nevertheless, I would like to pay attention to the opposite process and that is language attrition. Again from the psycholinguistic perspective and closely connected to teaching. We will discuss factors influencing language attrition and suggest how attrition or forgetting can be prevented. Results of neurolinguistic studies will be presented.

Obvykle se na Týdnu CJV věnuji tématu osvojování jazyka, letos bych se ráda věnovala tématu protichůdnému, tedy ztrácení jazyka (language attrition). Opět z hlediska psycholingvistiky a v úzké návaznosti na výukovou praxi. Pojmenujeme si faktory, které ovlivňují ztrácení jazyka, a naznačíme si, jak ztrátě či zapomenutí předejít. Zmíněny budou rovněž výsledky neurolingvistických studií, jež zkoumají přítomnost zapomenutých jazyků v mozku.
